Custom foot orthotics

Custom foot orthotics are unlike over the counter inserts that provide general comfort. Custom made orthotics are medical grade devices build specifically for your feet and footwear to help treat a specific problem. They are an effective way of treating foot and heel pain and are used to correct walking imbalances for people with flat feet or high arched feet. A biomechanical assessment from our experienced podiatrists can determine whether custom made orthotics are right for you.

Do I need custom orthotics?

People of all ages can address a variety of foot, ankle, leg and lower back problems by wearing custom orthotics in their shoes. Custom orthotics can be used to help treat foot and heel pain and correct walking imbalances for people with flat feet or high arched feet. Children and adults who play sport can benefit from custom orthotics by improving stability, balance and movement while reducing chronic tissue stress and pain associated with repetitive high impact movement. Custom orthotics can also be part of an effective strategy to treat arthritis, foot deformities and diabetes related foot issues.

How effective are custom orthotics?

In order for custom orthotics to be an effective treatment, accurate diagnosis and a biomechanical assessment are critical. At Podiatry Group Melbourne our experienced podiatrists provide a full clinical assessment of your individual foot problems. If custom orthotics are deemed beneficial to your treatment then a lower limb biomechanical assessment, gait analysis and accurate foot impression are taken to ensure the fit and function of your orthotic.

How long does the process take?

The first step to custom orthotics is the initial consultation where you will receive a biomechanical assessment, gait analysis and foot impression is taken and tailored orthotic prescription is formulated by your podiatrist. This in formation is then sent off to our laboratory and your custom orthotics should be ready in a little as 10 days. We will review you 4 weeks after you receive your custom orthotics to review the fit and function of your orthotics.

Are custom orthotics expensive?

At Podiatry Group Melbourne we offer both semi customised and fully customised orthotics to cater for varying budgets and conditions. In order to purchase custom orthotics an initial consultation and follow up consultation are necessary.
