Specialist consultation

When conditions require specialised surgical treatment and management then a referral for a specialist consultation with our resident Podiatric Surgeon, Dr Omar Baarini may be indicated. Our experienced general podiatrists can refer you to see Dr Baarini and may organise for you to have x-rays or additional imaging before your specialist consultation. During the specialist consultation, Dr Omar Baarini will listen and take a thorough history as you explain your symptoms. The consultation will include a thorough examination and Dr Baarini will clearly explain your condition and discuss the best treatment options. He will explore non-surgical treatments and advise you if he believes surgery will offer the best outcome to achieving long-term pain relief and foot and ankle function. Dr Baarini will also explain details surrounding post-operative care including whether any rehabilitation will be necessary.

Foot & ankle surgery

Minor procedures such as ingrown toenails and surgical wart removal are commonly performed by our general podiatrists. More complicated foot and ankle issues are referred to our podiatric surgeon Dr Omar Baarini. These including structural deformities such as bunions, hammertoes, painful flat foot & high arched foot deformity, bone spurs, heel pain, nerve entrapments, tendon and soft tissue problems, degeneration and arthrosis of the joints of the foot, congenital deformities, trauma and sport related injuries. Most foot and ankle surgery can be performed as a day procedure in a private hospital and with the aid of a surgical team including anaesthetists, surgical assistants and nursing staff. In a majority of cases, you will be able to return home the same day as the surgery, whilst for more complex procedures, a brief hospital stay may be required.

Post surgery management

Once your surgery is complete and you begin your road to recovery, rest and close monitoring of the area of operation is vital. Everybody is different and as such everybody’s recovery time will vary. Depending on the operation, you may be back on your feet the very same day or you may require subsequent days to allow your foot to rest without applying weight or force. After your surgery, during your hospital stay, Dr Omar Baarini will provide you with post-operative instructions to help you understand both the procedure and how to care for your condition post operation. It is vital this information is understood and followed as any deviation can result in jeopardising the result of the operation and may hinder your recovery. If you have any questions once you are home, post-surgery, Dr Omar Baarini is always happy to be contacted to help alleviate any concerns you may have.
